With the exodus from 700 mhz due to the FCC reallocation, Shure and Sennheiser are improving their next generation (this is a 3rd gen which arrived May-Jun 2010) systems to have more coverage and features. Here are the highlights:
0- if you are looking for the cardioid pickup pattern version of this mic - the wireless parts are the same - you can read this review to get that info then click here to get the 172 microphone specifics (sennheiser just changes out the microphone) Sennheiser ew 112-p G3 Omni Lavalier Microphone Wireless System, CH B
1 - Mic Attenuator - programmable 0 to -60dB in 3db steps covers a 1 million:1 range of input signals. That's more than the range from a guitar to line level.
2 - frequencies - bands preprogrammed or user defined - plug in your clear channels to 25 khz
3 - output Attenunator - programmable from +12 dBm line level to - 36 dBm by 6db steps (mic level to line level out)
4 - output for 3.5mm TRS or 3 pin XLR male both included
5 - "hidden" diversity antenna is the shield in the receiver output cable (in case you wonder where the 2nd antenna is! - graph shows which antenna is used.
6 - cooperation with FCC in issuing new digital TV frequencies guarantees in 42 Mhz to find at least one 6 Mhz block of *FREE* space somewhere, and sennheiser supports this on their website to find your free space by zipcode.
7 - mic and output cables both feature screwdown locks on the transmitter box to prevent tug-out
8 - IR downlink sends receiver programming of clear channels to transmitter without user intervention.
9 - professional designed audio compander ensures exceptional "wired" sound quality performance
10 - compatible with rackmount versions of the receiver as well, and can co-exist with IEM wireless systems or 300 series ethernet connected to ensure zero interferance.
11 - tx has 30 mW output over entire battery range thanks to internal dc/dc converter and was designed to run from 2.4VDC rather than 3.0VDCI've used the G2 and G3 - they are cross compatible with each other and the G1 (which lacked a pilot tone, so you must turn off pilot on the receiver to use with G1 transmitters - thats the only reason you would ever disable the pilot tone) Note however that each series has had a wider range of frequencies, so compatibility is from a newer receiver to older transmitter over all old transmitter frequencies.
The receiver also includes a clip on hotshoe mount (with no contacts) to mount it to most cameras
Altogether this is a great mono system, use 2 for stereo. The azden cam-3 AZDEN CAM-3 On-Camcorder Mini Audio Mixer gives you a 3-in 1-out stereo mixer that fits on your recorder to handle 2 mono and 1 stereo source (I have a review there - I never go recording without the cam3)
The Sennheiser has a nice advantage over the Shure UHF-R ($1999) system - it operates off 2.4 V from nimh cells and using the sanyo 2700 mah sets you can get 16 hours of use Sanyo 2,700 mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (4-Pack). Shure insists on alkaline 1.5 V cells for full runtime. Both the sennheiser receiver and transmitter use 2AAs each and even have a pc board trace so the batteries are put in the same way - not one forward, one backward as you would think with most radios.
This is an exceptionally flexible wireless vocal / instrument system with wired quality sound. You won't regret the flexibility of pro quality equipment. By using standard 3.5 mm TRS jacks you can plug other audio sources into the transmitter for handheld mics or other devices. Sometimes it is the fastest way to get a 3.5 mm signal matched to an XLR input which is why I keep 2 sets of these in my camera bag.
If you have questions for someone who has logged hours of use on both the shure and sennheiser systems, my email is in my profile. I also use the senn EW300G3 systems which are one notch better than this - last I checked they were not camera mountable for the receiver, but the 1/2 rack receiver did include the ability to do ALOT more, for example it has LAN connectivity to find a good channel, the lavalier or handheld mic sends digital data to the receiver subaudible to tell you the microphone pattern depending what head you have screwed onto the handheld mic and the battery level of the speaker's microphone so you are not caught offguard when they are running low (the backlit display turns from orange to red to alert you of any errors also on the 300 series, but its meant for installed applications rather than portable applications) - that's where the letter P comes from in EW112PG3 - the P in PG3 means the receiver is portable as is the transmitter and this is a lavalier version - they make handheld microphones with portable receivers also in the 100 series. The 300 series is better if you have multiple microphones running at the same time since you can put 2 half rack receivers next to each other on a rackmount system and get a well organized wireless mic console. The lan connections duplicate all the functions on the front panel on your pc which can reconfigure the systems for different scenes in a play for example - the 300 is one step up from the 100 which is a really good entry point. For permanent installs consider the EW300G3 series of computer (ethernet) controlled receivers from professional audio suppliers.

Sony DCC-FMT3 Car FM Stereo Transmitter Review

Sony DCC-FMT3 Car FM Stereo Transmitter
Average Reviews:

I actually picked this up at target, because it was $10 cheaper than the rest of the universals I had seen at Radio Shack and Best Buy. I didn't try it on the one preset (106.7) that is one of the strong radio stations here (it has 6 at the low and 6 at the high and I tried all the lows), but of the ones that I did try, 2 stations are normally decently strong with a little static, and I had no problems with hearing my music when I plugged this in. No static or overlap at all. And no need to adjust the volume.
Edit - after traveling, I found that I did have to have the magnetic antenna very close to my car's antenna, which frustrated me some, since it worked so well while parked. But once I did that, no problems on signals. Would probably lower the star rating to 4 if I could at this point simply for that reason. But I'm not disappointed to have purchased this.

Cables To Go Impact Acoustics 40430 Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black) Review

Cables To Go Impact Acoustics 40430 Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product works GREAT and is very inexpensive compared to others. I recommend using this product over wireless repeaters for reliability and cleanliness of installation.
PROS: Very neat installation and very accurate repeater for a complete system using a Sony 52 inch LCD. Ample wires and expansion capability. Feels like a well built product with clear labeling on the box for easy installation. I added a standard 12 foot long 3.5mm M/F stereo extension cable to lengthen the 10 foot IR Receiver cable that was included in the kit. This allowed me to put the IR receiver on the TV (wall mounted Sony) and put the box in the equipment closet 12 feet away. It worked flawlessly. They should advertise this capability on the Cables to Go website.
CONS: The double back tape on the IR Transmitters seemed kinda week. I don't think they'll fall off over time, but actually might. The IR transmitter plugs pop out of the box very easily. I think they are using the wrong plug/socket combination in the design; they work, but come out VERY easily when they should 'click' in like the IR receiver and power plug do. The power cord is the same plug as all the other ports. It is easily confused with the port next to it labeled "Status". The unit will not work if the power is in the "Status" port, but when miswired, does not fry the unit either. (Uh, don't ask how I learned this...)
Great Product. Highly Recommended. 9 out of 10 for the IR Transmitters not locking in correctly.

5 in 1 FM Transmitter Car Kit for iPod Review

5 in 1 FM Transmitter Car Kit for iPod
Average Reviews:

I don't have an I-pod, but I do have a Sony MP3 player, and there is a stereo input jack on this that works great with my little player. There is also a USB charger plug on the bottom that allows me to plug my MP3 player in and keep it charged for long road trips.
Since this is based on FM broadcasting technology, it stands to reason that you will have to adjust it as you move across the country. I usually turn this unit off first, and then find a frequency on my radio that has a couple of empty slots on either side of it to ensure the least amount of interference. Once I have found a frequency, I just power the unit back up and adjust it to that frequency. Works like a charm.
My only wish with this product is that it would power itself back on everytime I start my car, and that it would come in black instead of white. It really stands out when you look in the window.

I needed outdoor speakers for my new mountain home so I settled on these and I loved them so much that I bought a second set for my home. They will work with my laptop, TV,and IPOD. You can buy additional speakers also if you need more sound but I found that these are plenty loud enough. The only complaint I have is there is on adapter so that I can plug my stereo into the dock. But I would definitely recommend these speakers.

RCA Lyra Wireless Transmitter Review

RCA Lyra Wireless Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hello All, Probably like some of you, I waffled for quite some time over whether to buy the RCA Lyra Wireless or not. Finally I plopped the dollars down and now I'm here to tell you that RCA Lyra does exactly what they say. And now, the particulars.
The setup was simple and straightforward, most of my time was spent moving my huge entertainment center from the wall so I could get to the back of my Sony receiver. I plugged the receiver into the MD/DAT slot, plugged it to a power source and every light on the signal indicator glowed green with joy. If only 802.?? were this simple. Ran the software to install the remote and musicmatch (not necessary, but I like it), checked all the audio settings per the manual and WIN XP had everything ready to go.

Went to the radio in Musicmatch and wow, the sound is outstanding, no hiss, just pure clean music. The manual stated that the Lyra could receive interference from cordless phones and recommended using position number four on both transmitter and receiver. I tried the others, turned on my cordless phone and no interference.
I subscribe to Rhapsody and Realone also. So naturally I tried each and they worked, matter of fact any and every sound that my computer makes come through the stereo. I do recommend you download the latest RCA Lyra software, it allows you to switch between players, currently Rhapsody and Musicmatch. But, like I said all the other players work as well, Media Player, MSN Radio Plus, Spinner, MoonTaxi, LaunchCast and more.
The remote control is awesome too, it does just as RCA states, I was surprised to learn that it closes whichever player you're listening to and it works through walls with no hesitation. If you're a Rhapsody user, you know that you can skip to the next song, the remote does that and more. It operates all other electronics as well, I haven't set it up for that yet, probably want, I have a nice Sony all you can control remote.
Well, I'm sure I may have missed something, but I've hit what's important to us all and that's the sound and the ease of setting it up.....PERFECTO. I'm very satisfied, actually it has exceeded my expectations. Lastly, it works, now go order yours!

Audiovox Acoustic Research AW825 Mission Style Wireless Speaker (Bronze) Review

Audiovox Acoustic Research AW825 Mission Style Wireless Speaker (Bronze)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was searching for wireless speakers for an outdoor event, and I'm certain these will do nicely. While it's true that the transmitter needs to be plugged into the music source (via a standard headphone jack that will fit all devices I would need it to) and into a wall outlet, I expected that. For a test run I plugged into my laptop sitting in the middle of the first floor then slotted 6 AA batteries into the speaker and turned it on. It automatically picked up the signal. I took a walk around the house and got about 100' away and still got good signal. I also like the feature to select L,R,or Mono on the speaker itself. Bass boost helps the sound a lot. Also, I was able to run 4 speakers from 1 transmitter. Don't know yet about interference or battery life for the speaker. I love the aesthetics of it.

Flexpod Car Mount System for Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS / iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd Gen - Cutting Edge FM Transmitter and Charger with DC Surge Protection and Stabilized Flex-Neck Review

Flexpod Car Mount System for Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS / iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd Gen - Cutting Edge FM Transmitter and Charger with DC Surge Protection and Stabilized Flex-Neck
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The GoGroove Flex Pod is a mixed bag - good, bad and just plain ugly. I'm reviewing it because none of the previous reviews seem to have focussed on its principal strengths AND weaknesses. Everyone seems to love it or hate it. Please note that there seem to be perhaps a dozen gizmos that look just like this one, but this review is about the GoGroove Flex Pod.
The Good: The price is right. $35 is a lot cheaper than my original iTrip for my iPOd (that doesn't work with the iPhone - Thanks Apple!) The gooseneck has not failed in over a month of daily use (despite other reports). It can be placed and/or bent into almost any position, allowing me to get it out of the way of my transmission lever as well as position it for optimum viewing of either the front panel of the iPhone or equally, the top where the FM transmitter frequency is displayed. There is a little knurled knob (that I suspect that some of those who say that the unit fails to hold their iPhone securely have failed to find) that adjusts the tension on the joint about which the iPhone rotates when installed. Tighten it to your preferred stiffness and the iPhone can be positioned securely in almost an infinite number of positions. The frequency can be adjusted to almost anywhere along the FM spectrum (unlike my previous iTrip that had only 10 or 12 preset frequencies) and can be changed by 0.1 mHz increments up or down or by a pushbutton that jumps to previously set frequencies. The FM transmitter is reasonably strong. It works better than my old iTrip did - that is - fewer frequency changes are needed to maintain a static free status. And of course it charges the iPhone perfectly. All that is good.
The Bad (or only fair): The D/A converted output from the dock port seems to have some inherent distortion, depending on the particular tune being played (all my stuff is MP3 compressed at 128 kbps). I suspect this has to do withe the degree of compression used in the original recordings, but has the effect of making some bass parts sound crunchy rather than smooth. When connected via the dock port, the iPhone volume control is disabled (which is a good thing) and you control everything through the car's sound system.
The Ugly: This unit is advertised to also function as a "hands-free" phone device. They give you a little patch cord to connect the headphone out port of the iPhone to an analog input port on the GoGroove. Very clunky. And it doesn't work for @#$^#! If you connect it, the dock port is disabled and ALL the sound (music and phone) is played through this port, controlled by the volume setting on the iPhone and is very obviously not as hi-fi as the low level output from the dock port. And the hands-free patch is so close to useless as to not make any difference. With my Monsoon 200 Watt sound system, I have to turn the volume to max to even hear the other caller through the car speakers even when the iPhone's iPod volume slider is at maximum. They can hear me just fine (i.e., the fault is not the iPhone's), but all I hear is hiss and noise and a little, highly distorted audio. So bad as to be useless.
If you are looking for an inexpensive FM transmitter for an iPhone or iPod. the Gp Groove is OK, or perhaps a bit better. If you are looking for Hi-Fi reproduction, you will probably be disappointed. And if you need hands=free phone capability, you will almost certainly want to return this and get something else.

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini Review

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The itrip mini does what it advertizes: fits the sleek lines of the mini ipod without adding much bulk at all, and transmits your tunes to a radio tuned to frequency (defaults to 87.9, but you can adjust that by installing the simple software provided with the itrip).
Living in LA, there are VERY limited options insofar as stations not in use. 87.9 is actually one of the few options. The sound quality was awful. I tried using this device in my car, in my room, in my home stereo - all with the same lousy results.
I should have listened to the advice of the salesperson at the Apple store and gotten the cassette device to play my ipod music on other sound systems.
Bottomline: it works, but sounds like music playing on a radio station that doesn't quite come in clearly - static. Poor volume, and very poor sound quality.

I'm not a gadget guru, just an older guy who likes music. I wanted something to play both through headphones and a few different FM radios and this does exactly that and very well. I don't care about viewing videos, pictures or text but it does those things very well too. It seems to be well made and 99% intuitive, I figured almost everything out without cracking the instruction booklet.

Latte's Espresso portable media player may charm with its elegant gun-metal finish and sleek form factor, but it's what's under the hood that counts. Featuring an 8 GB capacity, a 3-inch touchscreen with haptic technology, wide audio and video format support, an FM transceiver that allows you to tune any radio to your device, voice recorder, and plenty more, it's the perfect way to free your media from the confines of your PC.

3-inch LCD Touchscreen Enjoy your favorite videos or pictures and navigate with ease on the Espresso's 3-inch touchscreen display with 420 x 240 pixel resolution.
The screen also features haptic technology, so you get tactile response to your touch, making for a more natural feel than a standard touchscreen.
G-Sensor G-Sensor technology enables the screen display to rotate based on the player's position. The player can adjust/rotate the screen display (except for the video play) to any direction when you flip the player.
Audio Player While some devices limit you with their skimpy format support, the Espresso will play MP3, WMA, FLAC, AAC, APE, and OGG music formats for about 15 hours on a single charge. Standard play modes like repeat and shuffle are included, along with A-B repeat play for repeating a specific section of a file.
And of course the Espresso supports ID3 tages (versions 1 and 2) for displaying song info while you listen. If you're a lyrics obsessive, you'll appreciate the LRC file support for displaying the words to your favorite tunes.
Finally, you can dial in your sound with the on-baord EQ, featuring seven settings: Normal, Rock, Pop, Classic, Bass, Jazz, MS Play-FX.
Video Player Take your favorite videos with you and enjoy them anywhere with the Espresso's brilliant screen. You'll get about four hours of video playback on a single charge.
Once again, the Espresso delivers on format support: AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, WMV, 3GP, MPG, DAT, and MP4 formats are all supported, so you can enjoy more video with less conversion.
Picture and Text Viewer Browse and view your favorite images in JPEG, BMP and GIF formats. Zoom in and out or play a slideshow for friends.
The Espresso's text viewer lets you change fonts/colors, set and recall bookmarks, and even auto-browse through multiple files in the interval you set.
Naturally, you can keep the tunes rolling while you enjoy these features.
FM Transceiver The Espresso boasts an FM Transceiver, meaning you can both transmit and receive FM radio. This means you can play your favorite songs and tune in the nearest radio (in your living room, car, etc.) to your Espresso.
As for standard FM radio, you're also covered, complete with user station presets and FM recording--record your favorite show for later enjoyment.
Voice Recorder Record voice memos, meetings, lectures, or anything else you decide to point the built-in microphone at directly to your espresso in WAV format.

Ok,
I have an 05 Sequoia that I put these headrest in. the colour of the interior matched it fairly well. I have cloth seats but the covering of the headrest matched like I said pretty good. Installation in my veh was easy. I had to use the bigger posts since the smaller ones were small. Running of the wire was easy too. I didn't have to use a coat hanger to fish around in the back part of the seat. The wires were long enough to go from full back to all the way forward. The DVD player that I have them connected too only came with one output. So I had to use a splitter. I haven't noticed and video problems with this. I will say that you need WIRELESS headphones with these monitors. There is NO AUX AUDIO. The head unit I have has dual zones so that the people up front hear the radio and the passengers can hear the movie. I would suggest that you purchase something to block the sun coming from the side windows. The display can washout in daylight. But at night no problems. I would recommend these headrest.
